Life at the stall
You're Taro, and you run Neko Ramen, the yatai you inherited from your father in Fukuoka. A yatai is a small Japanese street food stall: a kitchen on wheels, a counter and a few stools.
Cook every dish by hand
Take orders at the counter, then boil, grill, fry, steam and chop each ingredient. Take it out in time, or it burns.
Shop at the markets
Four kinds of markets, each with its own stalls, prices and quality. New stalls open as the days go by.
Learn from the vendors
Talk to the people who sell you ingredients. Some will share a trick that makes your dishes better.
Get to know your regulars
Forty customers, each with their own stories, tastes and favorite food. Remembering them is part of the job.
Set the mood
Tune the radio and the TV. When a customer's favorite station is on, they feel at home.
A year at the stall
The newspaper brings festivals, price changes and alerts. The campaign runs for 365 nights.
